Metromile came to us with the goal of introducing pay-per-mile car insurance to the world. It’s a pretty revolutionary idea, or at least, it was at the time. Uber and Lyft were just taking off and all these transient kids were moving to the Bay Area and driving habits were different for them. There were all these other ways to get around from electric scooters and skateboards to ebikes and public transportation. Why spend money on gas and parking to drive all over the place?

Make this group of people who don’t drive much into a club. Advertise along public transportation routes and create a community of people who don’t drive but do own cars. Make smart not to drive. And in the process support all those people who really just find it incredibly expensive.
